Uppu Aru Lagoon is a lagoon which is situated in the northern part of Sri Lanka, belonging to the Jaffna district.

Uppu Aru Lagoon is a lagoon which is situated in the northern part of Sri Lanka, belonging to the Jaffna district. Its maximum depth is 3 m and the lagoon separates the two regions of Thenmarachchi and Valikamam from each other. It is a saltwater lagoon which is linked to the Jaffna Lagoon by a short channel towards the south. The surrounding area of the lagoon consists of paddyfields, coconut plantations, palmyra palms and vegetation. It also attracts a variety of birds including ducks and flamingoes.

Getting to Uppu Aru Lagoon

From Jaffna travel approximately 8 km along the Jaffna – Kandy Highway and then approximately 2 km along the Manipay-Kaitadi Road to reach the Uppu Aru Lagoon.
