Katchatheevu is an uninhabited island which is situated close to Jaffna in the Palk Strait of the northern part of Sri Lanka. The island, which is located between Neduntheevu, Sri Lanka and Rameswaram, India, was a disputed territory claimed by India until the year 1976. It is a small island with an area of 1.15 square km. The St. Antony’s shrine is the only structure which exists on this island.
Getting to Katchatheevu Island
From Jaffna travel along the Jaffna-Pannai-Kayts Road and Valukkairaru-Punkudutivu-Kurikadduwan Road up to Kurikadduwan Harbor to get the Kurikadduwan Jetty which carries passengers in an hour long trip to Delft Island. From here travel further in the ferry until Katchatheevu Island.
