Wadinagala Kanda or Wadinagala Mountain is a popular hiking area located near Jayanthi Lake in Gal Oya National Park, Inginiyagala. The mountain stands at a height of 732 m (2400 ft.), and is the second highest peak in the Gal Oya valley. This mountain hike is for the brave hearted as it is quite a challenging task to accomplish. The area is a roaming ground for elephants and treasure hunters. There is no clear path up the mountain, which means that there is a high chance of getting loss without a tracker.

Wadinagala has a rich history and great archaeological value. The peak is once considered to have borne the foot print of Lord Buddha. Wadinagla is a small angled rock that provides sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding valleys from the top of the mountain.

Getting to Wadinagala Kanda

From Ampara travel along the Siyambalanduwa – Damana – Ampara highway passing Eragama, Hingurana, and Damana up to Wadinagala. Turn right at Wadinagala District Hospital onto Pallang Oya – Inginiyagala Road, and then turn to Koknahara Road and after that to Bund Road to reach the Wadinagala Kanda in Inginiyagala.
