Oluvil Lighthouse is situated approximately 12 km south of Kalmunai in the southern east coast of Sri Lanka. The lighthouse stands at a height of 24 m (7 ft.). It is the first lighthouse that was built after gaining independence, until the Hambantota Port and the Colombo Port Expansion took place during the 2012-13 period. Oluvil Lighthouse was declared open on 19 June 1999 by Minister for Port Development, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction at that time, M.H.M. Ashraff.

Getting to Oluvil Lighthouse

From Ampara travel along the Karativu – Ampara Highway and the Colombo – Batticaloa Highway passing Samanthurai up to Oluvil to reach the Oluvil Lighthouse.
