Niyuguna Purana Rajamaha Viharaya Archaeological Site is situated in Hingurana in the Ampara district. It is precisely located 600 m off the Siyamblanduwa – Damana – Ampara Road, approximately 3 km passing Damana junction towards Ampara. The ruins of this ancient historic temple was declared as an archaeological protected site by the Government of Sri Lanka on 26 December 2014. Apart from the temple premises itself, a drip ledge cave on a rock west of the temple as also declared as an archaeological protected site on 10 October 2014. The site consists of several ancient ruins, including a dilapidated stupa, pillars of ancient structures, rock-cut flight of steps, and cave and rock inscriptions.
