The Budugala ruins are believed to be of an ancient sanctuary belonging to the 1st Century BC. The Budugala temple lies adjoining it. The name Budugala is formed due to the belief that there was a Buddha sculpture on a rock at this site. There is a mysterious tunnel that is believed to have been the hideout of King Walagamba. The tunnel is also believed to be connected to Kuragala Cave.
