Hakgala Mountain is situated in the Nuwara Eliya district. It stands at a height of 2169 m with the popular and beautiful Hakgala Botanical Gardens located on the north eastern slope. The mountain is covered with lush greenery belonging to the Hakgala Nature Reserve which has many endemic species. According to legend the Hakgala Mountain is said to have formed by a piece of rock which was brought by Hanuman from the Ramayana, from the great Himalayan peaks.

Getting to Hakgala Mountain

From Nuwara Eliya travel approximately 15.4 km along the Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi Highway passing Katumana and Seetha Eliya to reach the Hakgala Mountain.
