Story of Fox Hill

Back in the day, the British ruled many countries in South East Asia and South Asia. During the Boer War, between South Africa and Great Britain, the British transferred many of their prisoners to countries under their rule. On one such occasion, prisoners arrived in Sri Lanka in a ship named “HMS Fox”. The captain and crew of this ship visited Diyatalawa in 1913 and made the prisoners, who came along with them, to place white stones to depict a fox and to display “HMS Fox” and “1913” below it. This is how this place got the name “Fox Hill”.
