Diyaluma Falls is situated in Koslanda in the Badulla district. It is the third highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 361st highest waterfall in the world, standing at a height of 171 meters. The falls are formed by a tributary of the Kirindi Oya. It is a very steep fall surrounded by wildlife, flora and fauna.

Getting to Diyaluma Falls

From Ella take the Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela Highway. Turn right at Ella junction onto the Colombo – Batticaloa Highway and drive for about 12.5 km to reach Diyaluma Falls.

The foot of the Diyaluma Falls can be reached within an hour’s drive from Ella, by car or tuk tuk. The last 15 minutes will be an uphill drive and the road from here would not be the best. At the foot of the waterfall, pass the bridge and follow the path to Diyaluma Falls.

Thereafter follow the road to Koslanda town for about 30 minutes’ drive. Once you reach a split of the road, turn right. Park your vehicle as instructed by the locals in the area and take the beautiful hiking path for about 40 minutes altogether.

Diyaluma Fall has different levels and natural pools at the top of it. You need to be fit to hike the falls and to view and be a part of this amazing creation of nature. The first part of the waterfall has many natural pools where you can take a swim. Moving further on from here you will come across another drop of the waterfall with natural pools. However, it is better to be extra cautious over here. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka and is a must visit place.
