Arambe Ella Falls is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is 54 meters high and 14 meters wide. The waterfall is sourced from a tributary of the Rakwana River which starts from the Sinharaja Forest Reserve. The waterfall gets its name due to it flowing through the ‘arama’ which is an area of jungle rich in resources such as food, wood, water and medicinal plants and traditionally utilized by the farmers of the hill country. Some of these aramas date back thousands of years and have been known to fully satisfy the needs of the local villagers before plantations were introduced.

Getting to Arambe Ella Falls

From Ella take the Colombo – Galle – Hambantota – Wellawaya Road and go past Wellawaya, Telulla, and Kuda Oya until Rakwana. Take the road from Rakwana to the village of Yahalawela which ends up in Lenark State Plantations after about 1 km. Go along Masimubla Road to reach the Arambe Ella Falls.
