Maha Oya Hot Water Springs are a group hot water wells that are located about 2 km off Maha Oya town in Ampara district. It is renowned as the hottest hot water springs amongst all other hot water springs in Sri Lanka. There are 7 hot water springs of varying temperatures, with the hottest one being about 56C (133F). Only 2 out of the 7 wells are suitable for bathing, and you can see steam evaporating from the others.

Getting to Maha Oya Hot Water Springs

From Ampara travel along the Ampara – Uhana – Maha Oya Highway passing Uhana, Weranketagoda, Gonagolla, and Gemunupura up to Maha Oya to reach the Maha Oya Hot Water Springs.
