Distance from Kandy – 66.2 km (1 hour 54 minutes)

Welanda Falls is situated in Thunbage village, 5 km into Bulathkohupitiya-Dedugala Road. It is 37 meters in height and is quite an unfamiliar waterfall. There is a nice flat rock area in front of the Welanda Falls waterfall. It is called Welanda (trade) Falls because some Muslim traders have bathed here frequently back in the day.

Getting to Welanda Falls

From Kandy take the Colombo – Kandy Road and go past Peradeniya, Kadugannawa, Kegalle, Moronthota and Undugoda until Thunbage. Travel about 5 km along the Bulathkohupitiya-Dedugala Road passing the Thumbage temple and bridge. Then follow the footpath and cross a stream of water to reach the Welanda Falls waterfall.
