Thiruketheeswaram Kovil is an ancient and popular Hindu temple which is situated in Mannar. It is also known as Ketheeswaram temple. This temple is one out of the five Hindu temples which were built around the perimeter of the island (Pancha Ishwarams) that were dedicated to God Shiva (Ishwara). Thiruketheeswaram Kovil is believed to have a link with the epic, Ramayana and is part of the Ramayana tour in Sri Lanka. The history of the temple dates back to 6th century BC while it was reconstructed in later on due to the destruction caused to it by Portuguese invaders in 1575. Man Hindu devotees from all over Sri Lanka make it a point to visit the Thiruketheeswaram Kovil on their trip to Mannar.
