Paramakanda Raja Maha Vihara is an ancient Buddhist cave temple which is situated in Anamaduwa in the Puttalam district. The history of this temple goes back to the reign of King Walagamba. The site has also been declared as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka. Few rock inscriptions and paintings have been identified at the temple premises.
Getting to Paramakanda Raja Maha Vihara
From Kalpitiya travel along the Palavi-Kalpitiya Road passing Etalai and Norochcholai up to Palaviya. Then travel along the Palaviya – Kalladiya Road and the Katugastota-Kurunegala-Puttalam Highway passing Kalladiya and Kottukachchiya up to Anamaduwa to reach the Paramakanda Raja Maha Vihara which is situated in the village of Paramakanda approximately 4 km from the Anamaduwa town.
