A unique feature of this temple is that it has a Tampita Vihara Ge. This was a prominent architectural feature across temples that belong to the Kandyan era. Mawela Malwathu Purana Tampita Viharaya is built upon granite stumps that are about 6 feet in height. The image house of the temple has statues of Lord Buddha. Wall paintings at the temple also depict the two chief disciples of Lord Buddha, Sariputta and Moggallana Theros.
