Introduction to Kumari Ella Waterfall

Kumari Ella Waterfall is situated in the Colombo district. It is a small fall of 4 meters in height. According to folklore, the daughter of King Seethawaka Rajasinghe, named Kumari, has drowned here. Following the stream in the right side leads to the base pool of the fall.

Water flow of Kumari Ella Waterfall

Two streams namely from Pittukande Mountain and Dukkalahelena Mountain meet with two other streams of which one is from Hewahinda and the other is from Illukovil, at the Puwakpitiya Aman Oya. This water flow eventually flows on to the Kelani River at Ambangama. This waterfall is also known as “Kumari Wala Ella”.

Getting to Kumari Ella Waterfall

From Colombo travel along the Colombo – Katunayake Expressway and take the exit towards Biyagama. Merge onto the Biyagama Road and then turn to the Avissawella Road. Go past Seethawakapura up until Digana and turn to Hewainna Road to reach the Kumari Ella Waterfall.
