Kotuaththawala Bird Sanctuary is a bird watching area which is situated close to the Nikaweratiya town in the Kurunegala district. It is a nature reserve rich in biodiversity. A wide variety of water birds can be spotted at the Kotuaththawala Bird Sanctuary. This includes Pelican, Kingfisher, Green pigeon, Grey headed fish eagle, Purple swamphen, Indian cormorant, Black headed ibis and Grey heron etc. The area is also home to a wide variety of plants.
Getting to Kotuaththawala Bird Sanctuary
From Kalpitiya travel along the Palavi-Kalpitiya Road and the Palaviya-Kalladiya Road passing Etalai and Norochcholai up to Kalladiya. Then travel along the Katugastota-Kurunegala-Puttalam Highway up to Kurunegala to reach the Kotuaththawala Bird Sanctuary.
