Karambagala Hermitage is an ancient forest hermitage which is situated in the Ambalantota area in the Hambantota district. It is also known as “Karandulena Hermitage” and consists of a large number of caves. The ruins of this ancient forest hermitage spreads over two hills, Madunagala (327 ft.) and Karambagala (392 ft.). The two hills are situated 600 m apart. A stupa, which has been extensively renovated, lies at the top of the Karambagala rock. Ruins of several other stupas and an image house can also be found at the location.
