Kallaru Forest Reserve is situated in Kallaru in north-western Sri Lanka. It is one of 9 Protected Forest Reserves that make up the Wilpattu Forest Complex. It features diversified forest ecosystems which consist of grasslands, wetlands, dry forests, coastal ‘willus’ and thorny scrub jungles. These features make it the ideal habitat for animals such as leopards, elephants, sloth bears as well as many species of reptiles and birds. Kallaru Forest Reserve has been subjected to illegal deforestation and is in a threatened state at present.

Getting to Kallaru Forest Reserve

From Mannar travel along the Medawachchiya-Talaimannar Highway and South-Coast Road passing Silavathurai and Mullikulam up to Kallaru to reach the Kallaru Forest Reserve.
