Independence Memorial Hall is a national monument built in commemoration of Sri Lanka gaining full independence from the British Ceylonese government on the 4th of February 1948. It is located in Independence Square in Colombo 7. The location also houses the Independence Memorial Museum. The monument was built at the place where the official ceremony of the start of self-rule took place. The statue of the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Rt. Hon. Don Stephen Senanayake is located at the head of the monument.
