Galgodiyana is a small island situated in the southern coast of Sri Lanka in the Matara district. It is situated in front of the Polhena Beach, less than 200 m off land and approximately 500 m off the beach. The surrounding water is a popular spot for snorkelling and for watching sea turtles. Visitors can take a boat trip to this island at a very minimal cost. A few ancient ruins can be found on this island which are believed to date back to over a century ago. The island consists of ruins of a stupa built according to Thai architecture and a stone arch.

Getting to Galgodiyana

From Mirissa travel approximately 11 km along the Matara Road up to Matara to reach the Galgodiyana Island situated in front of the Polhena Beach.
