Fort Frederick is a fort built by the Portugese in Trinco. It is known to have been built around 1624. The fort is built on Swami Rock-Konamamalai from the debris of the world-famous ancient Hindu temple namely Koneswaram which mean Temple of a Thousand Pillars. The temple was destroyed by the Portuguese colonial Constantino de Sá de Noronha. Fort Frederick is built from granite and rocks and is controlled by the Government of Sri Lanka. It is a defense fort with its current occupants being the Gajaba Regiment of the Sri Lanka Security Forces.

Getting to Fort Frederick

From Trinco take the Kandy Road and travel about 1.2 km along this route. Then continue on Main Street and turn to Konesar Road to reach Fort Frederick.
