Bambaragala Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple which is situated in the village of Henagahawela in Teldeniya, Kandy.

Bambaragala Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple which is situated in the village of Henagahawela in Teldeniya, Kandy. It is a cave temple which is situated at the summit of a rock which is led by a steep flight of stone steps. The summit of the rock consists of ancient rock cave hermitages which are also known as “lenas” with drip ledges. This cave temple is believed to have been a monastery, back in the day. Renowned archaeologist Professor Senarath Paranavithana states that inscriptions found at this site date back to the 2nd and 3rd century BC. He also states that the murals found at the temple belong to the Kandyan era.
