Historical Matale Rebellion Monument is situated along the Kandy – Jaffna Highway in Matale. The historical Matale rebellion took place between the British colonial rulers and the Kandyan rebels in 1848. It is a very important occurrence in Sri Lankan history. Some of the brave Lankans who were leading the rebellion were Gongalegoda Banda and Weera Puran Appu. A structural monument has been built at the place where the rebellion took place.
