Cave of Arahat Mahinda, also known as “Mihindu Guhawa”, is situated in Mihintale. It is believed to be the cave where Arahat Mahinda resided when he came to introduce Buddhism to Sri Lanka. It is a very sacred site for the Buddhists in Sri Lanka. It has a flat slab of rock which Arahat Mahinda is believed to have had rested on.

Getting to Cave of Arahat Mahinda

From Anuradhapura travel along the Puttalam – Anuradhapura – Trincomalee Highway and the Kandy – Jaffna Highway up to Mihintale to reach the Cave of Arahat Mahinda which is situated along Old Road in Mihintale.
